Even though our dog yard closed on March 16, BARC has remained active:
4/27 Dan and Ruth Harris met Tawna May at K and C, adopting one of her 8 1/2 week old puppies that she had been fostering for 8 weeks. BARC had been supplying her with dog food and gave her an additional 25 pounds of dog food. 5/11 Two 10- week old puppies were vaccinated at Dusty Paws and transported by Ed Dobson to Underdog in Moab. 5/16 A female cat was live trapped, then vaccinated and spayed at Dusty Paws, and then returned to Elda Powell. 5/17 A four month old German Shepherd dropped off in Bluff was examined and vaccinated at Dusty Paws and then transported by Ed Dobson to Underdog on 5/18. 5/19 I drove to Little Water to pick up a Border Collie which was transported by Dawn Dilego to Underdog. 6/1. I drove to McCracken Mesa to pick up a 12 months old male yellow lab and a 10 month old black Rez dog, vaccinated both and then drove them to Underdog. 6/2 Marcus Buck called about an 8 month old female dog with an injured leg that was dropped off at his home south of White Rock. I picked her up, transported her to Blanding where the vet accepted her and took her on to Moab for X-rays. It was determined later that the dog had been shot, a fracture was set and splinted and the dog is now doing well. 6/12. Two male cats were live trapped at Elda Powell’s, neutered by Dusty Paws, and returned to Elda. 6/17. Two feral cats were live trapped at Elda Powell’s, vaccinated, spayed and neutered at Dusty Paws, and returned to Elda. 6/18. I received a call from Underdog about ten four week old puppies and a mom dog. I drove to Dennehotso to pick (capture) them up. Ed Dobson met me in Bluff and transported the puppies to Monticello where he met Underdog staff. The mom dog was kept at Dusty Paws, vaccinated and spayed and then boarded for four days when the owner failed to pick her up. 6/28. Daylene Redhorse borrowed four carrier cages to transport nine dogs to Underdog. 6/30. Linda Colangelo of Blanding is fostering a mom cat and four kittens. BARC provided 28 pounds of dry kitten and cat food,17 cans of cat food, a cage, litter box, 25 pounds of cat litter and two small cat carriers. 6/30. Thomas Hook live trapped a mom cat and four kittens. BARC provided a cage, some food and cat litter. Thomas and Sophie are fostering these cats until kittens are old enough to vaccinate. 7/6. I live trapped a mom dog, which the owner, Jessica Holiday, had been trying to capture for over a year. I took her and 5 puppies to Bluff where Paul Martini met me and transported them the rest of the way to underdog. 7/ 8. Tourists dropped off a beautiful Irish setter, found at Valley of the Gods. At Dusty Paws, Greg vaccinated and spayed her on July 11. The tourists returned to Bluff July 13 on their way home and adopt this gentle beauty. 7/12. I drove near Black Mesa to pick up a pregnant dog and a mom dog with 5 puppies. They had been dropped off and the owner could no longer afford to feed them. I met Ed Dobson in Bluff, and he transported them the rest of the way to Moab. So….the work continues. BARC pays Dusty Paws at greatly reduced fees. However, we are getting low on funds. We need food, foster care, drivers, and money. Contact BARC if you can help with any of these needs. Please help. Many people on the reservation are giving up animals that are dropped at their homes or that they can no longer afford to feed. BARC remains grateful to the many people who have contributed to help us remain solvent. Together we all help the people and the animals affected by Covid 19.
