AAAW ______! It happened again! A friendly but shy adult blue heeler was hit by a car on December 5th at nearly the same place as the last dog, Foxie. Melanie had been feeding him for two weeks but was unable to touch him.
Paul and I found him under a bush at the Bluff Gardens. He was scared. We were afraid he would bite us when we tried to pick him up.We tried to get a blanket near him which scared him further. He wanted to get away which he was able to do on three legs and a few hops. This allowed us to throw a blanket over him and make a sling to lift him into the truck and take him to Greg at Dusty Paws. Greg gave him a sedation shot in the truck. Twenty minutes later, we were able to use the sling to get him into the clinic where he spent the night.
The next day, I drove him to Blanding for a rendezvous with Amber from Underdog, who transported him the rest of the way to Moab for X-rays and further treatment. We plan to live trap the other small dog that has been running with the heeler. If we catch it, we still have nowhere to put it except in my garage in a small cage.
We need another foster! We need UDOT to put up animal crossing and “SLOW DOWN” signs!
Jana and Steve, and Dudley and Glen continue to provide foster care in Bluff. Paula Maryboy, Bessie Pelt, and Heather Jemmott continue to provide foster care on the Rez. This past month, we managed to get Heather’s male neutered but not before he fostered a new litter of 7 puppies, which are now six weeks old. We have delivered 650 pounds of dry dog food and 6 cases of canned dog food, traveling 100 miles. We have spayed one, neutered two, and adopted two puppies.
